2011 SEA Games official mascot is Modo and Modi, a pair of dragons. This mascot was adopted from an animal dragons as the pride of ancient animals endemic to Indonesia, which is present in the Komodo National Park, covering the island of Komodo, Rinca, and Padar island, East Nusa Tenggara. Modo is a male Komodo dragon who wears a blue costume with a traditional Indonesian batik sarong sling. Meanwhile, Modi is female dragons who wore a red kebaya also with scarves and batik cloth. "Modo" is short of Komodo's name, while "Modo-Modi" is a spelling modification of Young-Mudi, which means "youth", in Indonesian language which means teenagers Indonesia. Modo and Modi has properties of hardworking, honest, fair, friendly, friendly, and sportsmanship. Modo nature and Modi-paced positive and reflect the personality of the Indonesian nation is expected to preserve harmony and friendly cooperation among participating countries SEA Games. This mascot was introduced exactly 200 days before the SEA Games XXVI of the day Monday, April 25, 2011 in Theater homeland, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta, and at the Welcome Monument in Central Jakarta.
Previously, the government has chosen Palembang Sumatran elephant as the mascot through an open competition, but there are suggestions from the President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and KONI to use the Eagles birds. After the election of dragons, then the idea of Sumatran elephant and eagle mascot removed. The decision to choose Komodo as the mascot of this 2011 SEA Games, was selected as Indonesia's efforts to promote the Park as a candidate for the New7Wonders of Nature (the new Seven Wonders of Nature).
